Wine Tasting Near Mount Etna: Our Stop at Enoteca dell’Etna

Wine Tasting Near Mount Etna: Our Stop at Enoteca dell’Etna
We did this stop after visiting Mount Etna from Catania, and it worked surprisingly well as a calmer second half of the day.
After spending hours exploring the volcano, this stop turned out to be the perfect way to relax. If you plan a similar trip, I honestly recommend doing it in the same order — first the adventure of Mount Etna, then a calm wine tasting experience afterwards.
When we arrived at the winery, we were warmly welcomed by the hosts. Before starting the tasting, they told us a bit about the local wine culture and about wines produced on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna.
Wine from this region is quite unique because the grapes grow in volcanic soil, which gives the wines a very distinct character.
The Wine Tasting Experience
After the introduction, the tasting began.
We were served several wines produced in the Etna region. Many local wines are made from native Sicilian grape varieties such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, and Carricante, which are well adapted to the volcanic terrain.
The wines had a very pleasant balance of freshness and minerality, something typical for wines grown on volcanic soil.
But wine was only part of the experience.

Local Food and Olive Oil Tasting
The wines were accompanied by a selection of local artisanal snacks.
We tasted several extra virgin olive oils, each with a slightly different flavor profile. Some were more aromatic, others had a mild bitterness, and some had a stronger, more intense taste.
The oils were served with bruschetta, and we also tried sun-dried tomatoes and different varieties of local olives.
Personally, I started with the olive oils first, tasting them with bread before moving on to the wines.
Everything felt very authentic and natural, exactly the kind of experience you hope for when visiting Sicily.

The Atmosphere and Location
The place itself is beautifully arranged and very welcoming.
The interior feels cozy and traditional, while outside there is a beautiful view over the surrounding landscape and toward the city in the distance.

Besides wine tasting experiences, Enoteca dell’Etna also operates as a regular restaurant, offering both tasting menus and a classic menu for visitors who want to stay longer and enjoy a full meal.
Final Thoughts
For us, this stop became one of the most relaxing and enjoyable moments of the entire trip.
After the dramatic landscapes of Mount Etna, sitting down with local wines, olive oil, and traditional Sicilian snacks felt like the perfect ending to the day.
If you are visiting Catania and planning a trip to Mount Etna, I highly recommend adding a stop at Enoteca dell’Etna to your itinerary. It’s a wonderful way to experience the local food and wine culture of the region. You can also book similar wine tasting experiences in the Etna area through GetYourGuide, which is the easiest way to organize it in advance.
If you’re still deciding whether Catania itself deserves a place in your Sicily itinerary, I’ve also written an honest guide on what to realistically expect from the city.
